Tulips
Tulip shoots
Last night I returned from nearly 2 weeks up north. A mostly business trip to Sapporo, Furano, Niseko and a few other Hokkaido ski resorts. After a week or so of being outdoors with the temperature around minus 12-15 degrees celsius, Okazaki City felt positively tropical. This morning I took a look around and noticed that the shoots of most of the tulips in the veggie patch are popping up.

Its still February but spring is certainly here already. I'm not sure why more of the tulips haven't come up, possibly because of different varieties, possibly because I may have planted some of them a little deeper. Should be quite colorful in a few weeks time. I also just heard that my neighbours are moving out, so perhaps it might be a good opportunity to "claim" the rest of the patch by planting something just before I head off to Ireland next month.

Green peppers
Little green pepper tree
Just realised I didn't take any photos of the veggie patch last year. A bit of a shame all things considered. I've planted tulips along the front, and the little kid next door planted what appears to be a plastic fork, possibly a tomb for dead garden tools? The weed growth in the background is the neighbour's half of the patch.

Also planted the small tree retrieved from Duke & Debbie's balcony. It has little green pepper like thingees growing on it, which I'm hoping are edible - any volunteers willing to "taste test"? Probably won't plant anything else before the end of winter.
